About the film

Jurnalul familiei -escu tells the story of the Romanian family over the last hundred years - the fall of the old world, the horrors of war, the creation of the new man, and the chaos of freedom. It is the story of millions of Romanians who, through various circumstances, ended up living within these borders and having to stand each other: just the way things happen in every large family.

A journey through space and time in which family bridges the gap between every moment that has united or torn apart Romanians. Through defining elements such as language, nationality, religion, food, sports, politics, war, traditions, music and fashion, the film portrays how these have influenced and shaped the Romanian family. The director searched for answers alongside Ioana Pârvulescu, Mihaela Miroiu, Sorin Ioniță, Stelian Tănase, Theodor Paleologu and Vintilă Mihăilescu, supported by the personal archives of dozens of Romanians.

The film premiered at the International Film Festival Transilvania (TIFF) and was praised by critics as one of the strongest cultural products made for the Romanian Centennial. Produced by Kolectiv Film in co-production with Studioul Video Art.
